Sex Education

Birth control is a type of contraceptive from Planned Parenthood

When it comes to sex education, people either have a stance on it, or they barely acknowledge the importance of it. While schools in America most likely have a sex education class program other people in the world hardly know anything about sex at all. The lack of knowledge that can spread diseases or can result in death and change a person’s life forever. Around the world, people think that sex education is not necessary, but the people who should know the most about sex are barely even included in most discussions of sex education and contraceptives. When it comes to contraceptives most of them are meant for women they involve a lot of time and risks that can affect childbirth after use of them. Women get these contraceptives and don’t know the effects and are affected negatively by them.

Women should be more educated on sex and contraceptives — the debate for education with women in third world countries. The article “Girls Rights” talks about all types of rights Women in third world countries should have, and one topic they spoke on is sex education and the benefits of having that knowledge. The article had two professionals talking about their stance on sex education towards women was for it and was against educating women. Both people made good points on the opposing sides they were on. Devashish Duta is Pro education because that will lower chances of infections and it will help women out with what they want to choose for themselves and better education for the future. Rebecca Oas has a different view of sex education she doesn’t agree that women should be educated on sex. She says that depending on where you are sex education could be taught differently and that when it comes to knowledge about sex people should not just learn about contraceptives but the risk of them as well. She brings up the point that while sex education classes are essential and they teach you about contraceptives they don’t educate you about the risks of those modifications you are taking. This is very much true because while the rates for teen pregnancy is going down around the world the infection rate from not being educated properly is increasing and becoming more massive each year.

According to the article, the “Intrauterine device” The IUD is the most leading in causing infections in young women. The IUD works as a contraceptive that creates mucus in the uterine lining and stops sperm from entering the uterine wall. It also creates complications in having kids after use of this contraceptive. That’s why it’s important to teach not only the importance of contraceptives but the effects of them and what could happen after using them (“Intrauterine Device.”).

This is a picture of an IUD from insider

In a world where genital mutilation is just apart of life for some girls, they have been taught that even having been born with their genitals is wrong. They lack the knowledge of their sex which holds them down in the society, that’s what feminism like Malala Yousafzai fight and stand for to better educated young women in the world about how much power they hold. She is the face of women having education rights around the world. There is also Women’s activist Usha has an organization called the Red Bridge to teach young women about self-defense. Women like these are advocates for education and having women know herself worth.

The article “girls rights” talks about how there are women in the world who believe that women don’t have educated like the women of the Maasai tribe who gathered to discuss what precisely Female genital mutilation is. They support the concept of it because it is commonly practiced and what they have done for a very long time. The women in the tribe support the idea even though they get criticized by the world because of it. This brings the concept from Devashish Dutta when he says the people should be educated before; they start becoming sexually active to prevent harm to other people. Women who have undergone FGM have suffered from infections or is carriages and even having to pee or to have sex hurts. Most tribes that do FGM are not educated doctors doing this procedure, and some women even die from it( Girls Rights et al. 349).

Women mostly in Africa do this because they need to find a husband. Most men won’t marry them unless they have the procedure done. These women that have FGM are often sold to another family so her family can make money. Women who haven’t had the operation are seen as evil and not trustworthy. People refer to FGM as “cutting off the dirt” (girl’s rights 348), and it is seen as a rite of passage it is seen to protect a girls innocence and keep the family’s honor. The people of Ethiopia said that “Change has to happen within the community”because even if the leaders and officials say it needs to stop the people of the tribe will still try to do it( girls rights 349).

Even though sex education is not seen as necessary, it is because most of the world population are women and when a majority of the population doesn’t even know how to read and write or even know about the risks of sex its concerning. Because women are not educated many of them are being treated wrong or abused because of the lack of education. Their rights are drowned out because they are merely women and are somehow seen as less. Everyone should be able to have access to educating because it is just a human right to be educated about their surroundings. Women all around the world are becoming more educated and even standing up for themselves all around the world. If things continue the way they are when it comes to gender equality, then we will be in the right place over time as a whole. Though some women choose not to be educated that is entirely their choice and up to them. They also bring up good points about the foundation and even bring in statistics about infections and what sex education could do negatively for women.

As the world changes, everyday change is happing all the time women around the world are not educated in contraceptive’s that can save their lives and their partner. They are not seen as equal across the globe even though they are a majority of the population. Even though this is how women are viewed in a lot of places in the world they are also fighting back and they are fighting for their rights. Women want to be considered to be in equal and just as Important as their male counterparts, and a good way for that to happen is by education other women around the world about themselves their bodies and the world they live in.
