Stop Being So Productive

Before you read this short, pointless post, could you do something for me?

Having done just that over the years, I am regularly flabbergasted (I love it when I can use that word) at the amount of “Tips/Tricks” videos and blog posts there are out there on how to Hyper Maxify your note-taking. I mean, how productive do we need to be? When will this all end?

Now, no shade thrown at anyone creating videos/posts out there sharing about their productivity hack of choice. It is fantastic how this works out for many; there are great habits to take out of this. Finding ways to organize your life can and usually are hugely beneficial. Technology will become more and more personalized as we progress further, and we will inevitably find new and crazy ways to integrate into our lives.

It truly is an exciting time to be alive. There is never a dull moment. There is always something new to discover: fresh and exciting podcasts, music, audiobooks to hear, groups to become a part of, many new tv shows, movies, and video games to absorb. Oh, and there is absolutely a never-ending amount of *insert record scratch*

Just slow down, slow the hell down for a minute. Breathe.

No, seriously, please breathe for a moment.

..

Ok,

When on earth did this trend of needing to become hyper-productive come about? More importantly, for the average human out there, why do we want to be this productive?

For all the wrongs we throw at older generations, there is one thing they have on us. They knew when to enjoy the quiet moments. No, I do not mean when you go drive down to the lake and post a photo on *insert social media platform* saying how much good it is doing your soul to relax for a while. I mean, sitting out on the porch/deck and just shutting your brain off and letting your senses take over and live in the moment. No ideas, no due dates, no responsabilities.

We need these moments. We need to be able to take a step back and slow our brains down. For all the benefits this hyper-productive society has for some, for many others, it means we are losing actual real-world connections and replacing them with our devices. We are stressing ourselves over what we can and should be doing.

Please, please stop comparing yourself to those more successful than yourself. They are merely entities within your story; they are not you. You have so much to offer the world, and just because you do not have every minute of every day logged out for the next decade does not mean you are lost.

You can do this; you do not need to log down every sneeze, every sip of water, every gain you make at the gym. You are still you, even if that information is not digitally captured somewhere out there.

Take a tip here or there, but spending all your time watching productivity videos has the inverse effect you want it to have.

Take a moment and just rest. The productivity will follow, I promise.
