A Prayer for an End of Our New American Normal

Holy Father, Creator of Heaven and Earth,

We offer our most heartfelt prayers to the victims of this inexcusable violence in our country. Give comfort also to the families of those lost in these senseless acts.

We pray also for those in power, that they be given the wisdom and courage to act to curtail this all-too-common violence in our nation. Grant them the strength of character to reach across the aisles of division, anger, fear, idolatry, and greed to work toward a solution; a solution that allows us, who are made in Your image, to properly care for this creation to which You have given us.

Finally, we pray for those in situations in which they believe violence against their neighbor is the only solution. Grant them the courage to seek help, and comfort, whether in Your loving hands, the care of medical professionals, or both. Help them realize that violence is not the answer to their problem. Grant them peace in the knowledge that they have worth and are loved unconditionally by You.

Bless all of our First Responders who run toward the sound of gunfire, willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of others. Give them the strength, courage, and fortitude to accomplish their sacred duty.

We offer this prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever.
