So tonight I was watching the Post starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks which discusses the publication of the Pentagon papers. Besides Meryl’s constant laughing I drew comparison between the President Nixon’s dislike of the press to Trump dislike of the press. Both men hate the press mainly because they covered them in a bad way, as Nixon called the press the “ enemy”, the same can be said for Donald Trump who has ridiculed tv. networks and newspapers for negative coverage. He has sought to destroy the credibility of these institutions by calling them fake news and by calling the press out as a bunch of liars.
Speaking of liars remember the word “ alternative facts” , when I first heard Kellyanne Conway use that particular word on interview with CNN, I nearly fell of my chair did she just say that her facts were alternative and truthful ? WHAT ?! No, what Kellyanne Conway was talking about is Trump’s version of the truth. It’s a kind of truth when kids lie and they come up with some bogus explanation that’s so stupid that you know they are lying. Those lies are easy for a reporter to uncover and to debuke. Because what Trump does not understand is they are their for the truth not to suck up to Trump. Trump should learn to accept that he cannot bully the press, they will do their job because they have a duty to the press to inform the public of the current situation in our country and in the world. As the Washington Post motto says “”Democracy Dies in the Darkness” if we allow Trump to continue to ridicule the press people will slowly believe and Democracy will die
