Staked by the Vampire

I claimed my first victim

If you’re unfamiliar with the rules, here’s a few specifics from our league:

So, for the first week of the season, I targeted wide receivers. I declared for Marvin Jones. I considered Larry Fitzgerald, but figured Jones had higher ceiling potential. Then I watched Week 1 and re-thought all my assumptions. But it turned out it didn’t matter. In Week 1 I lost 122.1 to 47.5. It wasn’t my finest moment.

That first week’s lineup: Andy Dalton at QB, Matt Breida and Peyton Barber at RB, Allen Hurns and Keelan Cole at WR, Charles Clay at TE and Danny Amendola at Flex. Aside from Dalton’s 16.5 points, everyone on my team scored in the single digits. Well, except for Charles Clay, who didn’t score at all.

Basically, after that hot mess, I decided it was time to blow it all up. Needless to say, between Week 1 and Week 2 I made a lot of changes, and I blew all $100 of my FAAB. (We have a $0 bid, so I can still make moves.)

Call me crazy, but I’m a big fan of Le’Veon Bell. So I declared for Bell. I, of course, couldn’t target a WR, so I was torn between Bell and Royce Freeman. But after landing Phillip Lindsay in waivers, I decided to diversify in the hope that Bell returns soon and can provide some big time scoring to my lineup. So, after a bunch of waiver claims, I fielded a much different lineup in Week 2.

Week 2 Lineup: Ben Roethlisberger QB, Barber and Breida at RB, Cole and Tyler Lockett at WR, Ricky Seals-Jones at TE, Lindsay at Flex. And the projections seemed promising.

My Opponents Lineup: Case Keenum at QB, Freeman and Jay Ajayi at RB, DeAndre Hopkins and Jarvis Landry at WR, Tyler Eifert at TE, Corey Davis at Flex.

I was projected to lose, but not by as much. And that gave me hope. Sunday I was at the Broncos’ game in Mile High, so I didn’t have time to follow fantasy closely. But at the end of the day when I checked, a funny thing happened…

Turns out that even though I still had one player left to play on Monday Night Football, it didn’t matter. I won. And that’s when it hit me, I now own Le’Veon Bell. In fact, Tuesday morning this trade was made:

I ended up deciding to trade Barber after two weeks without a ton of production. Breida is going well, and Lindsay has a lot of upside. My only other running back is Theo Riddick, who I think has a better shot at production that Barber. So I made the trade, added Bell to my IR slot and now it’s back to the waiver pool to fill my opening.

After turning in the fourth highest score of the week in our 12-team league, I have a new found hope for the season. At least a hope I won’t finish in last place.
