A balm for my heart

My heart is burning like hot charcoal
The hate setting it ablaze
Like a thousand shards
Piercing my soul
It hurts to breathe

I want to get rid of this pain
I want to throw away this burden
It feels heavy and suffocating
It clouds the sun
And darkens the skies
My lids are wet with regret
My lips tremble with remorse

I need to forgive
I need to let go
I need to move on
I need to set myself free

I want to douse the fire of anger
I want to wash away the rancor
I want to give myself peace
I want to taste joy
I want to feel love

Free from the prickle of needles
Heal my wounds
Close my scars
Light my days
Live with hope
Look forward to a new day
To a new start
To a new life
To a new me
